The duke city of Celle is the gateway to the Luneburg Heath and has a history of more than 700 years. The title “duke city” is due to the European nobility. Duke Otto the Strict founded Celle in 1292. The Duke's castle "Celler Schloss" is the oldest building in the city and is one of the most beautiful in nothern Germany. The Celler town center impresses with historic timber-framed buildings and offers many attractive shopping and leisure possibilities in addition to its charming charisma.
